Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery designed to increase the size of your breasts. The shape, volume and fullness of your breasts will be improved with the new generation of silicone gel-filled breast implants. Breast augmentation is also a great solution to restore balance if you have an uneven, asymmetric chest.
During your initial consultation, you will sit down with Dr. Lyons to discuss why you are interested in breast augmentation surgery. Once your augmentation goals are discussed, Dr. Lyons will examine your chest so she can choose the proper breast implants that are required to achieve the look you are going for.
Breast implants come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and profiles including smooth or textured surface shells. The shape, size and texture of your breast implants will be determined by your breast augmentation goals.
Your existing anatomy and measurements are also very important factors when it comes to determining your breast implant options. Dr. Lyons will assess and measure your chest to choose the best implants for you.
You will have the opportunity to try breast implant sizers on in clinic with Dr. Lyons so you can see what kind of augmentation results are possible with different types of implants.
Your breast implants will be inserted through an incision along the crease at the base of your breast.
The placement of your breast implants can be in 1 of 2 places. Above, or partially below your pectoralis major muscle — your chest muscle. The placement of your breast implants will be determined by Dr. Lyons according to your existing anatomy and surgical requirements. The type of implant, the placement of your implant and cost will be thoroughly discussed with Dr. Lyons at the time of your initial consultation.
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete. You will be comfortable and asleep during your surgery.
Take at least 5 to 7 days off work for recovery.
Every patient’s recovery from breast augmentation is unique. You may heal faster than others, however, it’s a good idea to take a few extra days off work to rest and heal.
Your breasts may lose some sensation, feel tight, and look swollen after your procedure. These symptoms are normal and will disappear within a few weeks following surgery. Dr. Lyons will give you very detailed post operative care instructions to follow during your recovery.
Breast augmentation can be combined with other surgical procedures such as a breast lift or tummy tuck. If you are interested in combining your breast augmentation with another procedure, please let us know when you call to reserve your consultation.
