Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery designed to reduce the size and shape of your labia minora. Labia anatomy varies widely in women, and this is normal. Some women do not like when their labia minora are visible outside of their labia majora. This can be your normal anatomy, or can be seen after pregnancy or with aging. It can be uncomfortable in certain clothing, like bathing suits or yoga pants, as well as on bicycle seats. It can also be uncomfortable during sexual activity. Labiaplasty can improve both the look of your labia as well as address the functional issues often seen with long or wide labia.
During your initial consultation, you will sit down with Dr. Lyons to discuss why you are interested in labiaplasty. Once your goals are discussed, Dr. Lyons will examine your labia so she can better assess how labiaplasty can achieve your best cosmetic and functional result.
Dr. Lyons will take the time to listen, and all of your questions will be answered before you leave.
Labiaplasty can be done with an edge trimming technique or a wedge technique. The technique for your labiaplasty will be determined by Dr. Lyons according to your existing anatomy and surgical requirements. The details of your surgery, as well as the cost, will be thoroughly discussed with Dr. Lyons at the time of your initial consultation.
Labiaplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about 1 hour to complete.
Every patient’s recovery from labiaplasty is unique. You may heal faster than others, however, it’s a good idea to take a few extra days off work to rest and heal.
Your labia may lose some sensation, feel tight, and look swollen after your procedure. These symptoms are normal and will disappear within a few weeks following surgery. Dr. Lyons will give you very detailed post operative care instructions to follow during your recovery.
Labiaplasty surgery can be combined with other surgical procedures such as a breast augmentation or breast lift. If you are interested combining your labiaplasty with another procedure, please let us know when you call to reserve your consultation.
